Prime Minister’s visit in 1982

Salomon Mamaloni, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, visited Sikaiana in 1982. As part of his visit, Sikaiana people performed some traditional activities including the beginning of the traditional Teika Lle. Ai the Prime Minister arrived at shore ashore, women lift him up and carry him. They then performed the Manea, a traditional ceremony associated with refurbishing the traditional ritual house (Hale Aitu), and some traditional dances. See a PowerPoint about this event.
